Altairnano shares got a boost today after it was announced that Canon will be the beneficial owner of 51% of the Company’s outstanding common shares on a fully diluted basis, and is to approve a one-time option exchange program for the Company’s employees. In previous press release the company has hinted to a Chinese affiliation for manufacturing plants, a move that would greatly reduce fabrication cost that had hampered a more widespread adoption of the Nanosafe batteries.
Under a separate conditional supply and technology license agreement, Altair has agreed to sell mega-battery units to Canon affiliate Zhuhai Yintong Energy Co., Ltd. Altairnano also agreed to provide them with an exclusive license to its technology to manufacture battery cells using its advanced lithium-titanate materials for worldwide distribution. This new development brings a halt to the speculations as to Altairnano’s survivability as Lightning battery supplyier.
Electric Vehicle EV second coming seems assured on the luxury front as well, now that Nissan made good on mass producing an affordable full electric vehicle for the common driver. Even with better princing expected due to Altairnano deal with Canon, rest assured the Lightning GT and GTS remain out of reach but for the rich and famous.

(CNET – Commentary) – Tesla Motors is helping destroy the notion that electric vehicles are green cars with unfortunate compromises.

The company last night unveiled the Model X, a sleek-looking cross between a minivan and SUV with clever “falcon wing” doors and a new electric all-wheel drive system. People can start placing reservations tomorrow for the Model X, which is expected to be available late next year with prices in the $55,000 to $75,000 range before tax incentives and rebates.
